What to do in Lima: 7 activities to do in the Peruvian capital

Today Dalila Barakat, authora of Mil e uma Viagens, recommends what do in Lima: from going shopping, visiting the Historical Center and the best places to eat.

What to do in Lima

  • Larcomar

The Dazzler Hotel Lima is located in Miraflores, a modern district of Lima, known by their shoppings, restaurants, casinos, gardens, parks, beaches and archaeological sites.

The hotel is located at 1, 7 km from the open mall Larcomar. Therefore, the first place I suggest to go is the Larcomar that brings together fashion, gastronomy and entertainment and for being near the sea, it offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the city.

It has 12 cinema rooms, a theatre, restaurants, cafes, bars, nightclubs, video games and more than 80 stores.

It is an archaeological site located also in the District of Miraflores. It was the temple of the female deity and now it is an open air Museum. Unlike other Inca temples, it is made of brick and not of stone.

The ticket costs 12 soles and available a guided tour of 1 hour.

  • Parque del Amor

It is more a square than a park, but it worth the visit. Some people say that it was inspired by the Park Güell in Barcelona. It is surrounded of flowers and colorful mosaics.

  • Historical Centre

The Plaza de Armas is the main point of the Historical Centre of the city. Around you will find the Cathedral of Lima, the Palace of Government, the City Council and several historical buildings of Spanish colonial architecture.

  • Gastronomy

Lima is the capital of gastronomy. There are so many options that it is worth to spend more time in the city for this reason. I stayed one day so I could try only one restaurant.

I went to Astrid y Gaston and certainly it is worth every penny spent. Other good options are: La Mar, Tanta, Cala, La Rosa Náutica, La Barra, Rafael and Central.

  • Barranco

At night, after a nice dinner, you may enjoy a bar with live music in the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco. It is not advisable to go as a single woman but if someone accompany you, no problem. It is not dangerous but just in case be attentive. There are bars with various styles of music, from rock to salsa and bossa nova.
