Shopping in Montevideo: Where to buy and tips to take into account

When the sunset falls and we have already enjoyed the Rambla or when the weather not accompanied, a good idea is to go shopping in Montevideo.

I share you some options that I went during my stay at the Dazzler Montevideo and some tips to take into account.

Shopping in Montevideo

Punta Carretas

Only five blocks of the Dazzler Hotel is located Punta Carretas Shopping, the mall more sophisticated of Montevideo. Its “anchor store” is Zara, which like here in Buenos Aires is divided into section women, men and children.

We can find brands that aren’t in Argentina such as Gap, Gap Kids and Hering. Also there are Uruguayan brands with garments of quality among which is stands out Manos del Uruguay.

Montevideo Shopping

15 minutes from the hotel is located Montevideo Shopping. Its logo store is Forever 21 but… the prices are not like the prices at USA or Santiago de Chile. There is also: Zara, Gap, Adidas, Levis, Nike, among others.

To get there by public transport on the corner of the Dazzler we have the bus stop (number 116)

The outlets of Av. 18 de julio

When we go to Ciudad Vieja or to enjoy the gastronomy of the port, we have to give us a tour of the main Avenue of Montevideo: 18 de julio Avenue.

Emblematic brands of Uruguay as Indian Emporium or Parisiene have their outlets in a giant local of 18 July Av. and Yaguarón.

Dont missed the outlet of the prestigious brand Daniel Cassin, where besides their fabulous prices there are discount by quantity and tax-free.

Tips to pay

  • In Punta Carretas Shopping, paying with Visa card, we have an automatic refund of IVA in all stores, including food shops.
  • In Montevideo Shopping, Zara and Forever 21 are attached to the Global Tax Free. They’ll give you a voucher that you have to deliver it at departure from the country (port, airport, etc.) After a few days you will see reflected back to your credit card.
  • If you need to remove cash of ATMs and only have your bank account in pesos, better use the cashiers of the network BROU. In the another network you only can remove if you have a bank account in dollars. Both networks charge a commission of UY $100 for each extraction.

I hope that these tips will be useful and that you enjoy your stay in Montevideo and in the Dazzler Hotel.
