5 Things to Do in Buenos Aires in Winter

1) Enjoy the Tango Festival

Every winter takes place the Tango Festival in Buenos Aires (from 9 to 22 August). In addition to the competition, involving more than 400 partners, the event offers different activities:  shows, exhibitions, fairs, concerts, lectures, movies, courses and milongas. The entrance is free and in several locations in the city but with limited vacancies.

2) Escape to province

You can take a weekend to get away and get out of the limits of the capital. A good option is to enjoy a getaway to Balcarce and visit the Estancia Fangio, an ideal place for those looking to connect with nature and tranquility.

3) Sit and enjoy a good book at El Ateneo

For books lovers, it is a library that occupies an old and huge theater that is priceless! It was chosen by the British newspaper The Guardian as the second largest library in the world. Grand Splendid was built over the old cinema theatre and still retains its ancient splendour and elegance, with decorated dome, the original Rails and intact decoration. The historical and cultural value is immeasurable and also still has a café piano bar, which is located on the stage of the ancient theatre. It is really a wonderful place to learn and get lost for hours with a coffee and a book in the hand.

  • Address: Santa Fe Av. 1860.
  • Opening Hours: Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 22 pm. Friday and Saturday 9-00 pm. Sunday 12 am to 22 pm. Free entrance.

4) Go shopping at the Galerías Pacifico and at the same time enjoy its art

In addition to being one of the most successful shopping of the Argentina, it is one of the most frequented by tourists in Buenos Aires. It was declared National Historic Monument for its architecture of undeniable artistic value and its stunning murals. Don’t forget to look up when you’re in!

5)  Enjoy the art in MALBA

For the cold days of winter, another option is to visit different museums which the city has to offer. The Museum Mile program offers a self-guided circuit of Tourism Cultural between Palermo and Recoleta so you don’t miss any. But if time is limited, we recommend visiting the Museum of Latin American art of Buenos Aires (Malba) that houses one of the most important collections of Latin American art including works of great 20th century artists such as Frida Kahlo, Roberto Matta, Diego Rivera and Xul Solar.
